From “Lost Lives” – Arthur a helicopter pilot from near York was one of four NCO’s killed by an IRA bombe as they got into a car outside the Nock Na Moe Castle Hotel in Omagh. Arthur had been to a regular Thursday night dance and was getting back in their car when it exploded. The IRA’s East Tyrone Bn said they carried out the attack.
Arthur was the 849th person to die in the recent troubles.
