From Roger Ashcroft – I had the pleasure of serving with Ricky in the Recce Pl of the 1st Bn Queen’s Lancashire Regt. We first met in Malta and a funnier man you never met Ricky had a sense of adventure the like you had never seen along with his best mate John Bull they were known as “Butch and Sundance” and the stunts they pulled while serving in Northern Ireland moved into “Folklore”. Ricky met his first wife at a dance in the “54″ Club at an event organized by Padre Mallet (RAChD). After a lengthy career Ricky left the service in the rank of Colour Sergeant. He tried a number of jobs but could not settle and left these shores to start a new life in Madeira where he sadly passed away due to a clot on his lung. All the people who served with Ricky will have many different memories of him but you can rest assured they will only be good and happy ones
