From Ray Ironmonger – Members of “A” Coy IJLB Oswestry during the period 1964 onwards would remember him as the Coy Comd. I first met the Major in Egypt 1947 as he was then a Lt in the 2nd Bn The North Stafford’s, he was at that time the Pl Comd of the Armoured Car Platoon. After I left Oswestry we later met at the Regimental Depot Lichfield in the mid 70s where the Major was serving as a retired officer. He was one of nature’s gentlemen and will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
