From Jim Murdoch – Though I knew Tam in the Bn I must confess I had no idea he was a former Junior Leader until I read of his passing on one of the KOSB websites. Tam was a fit confident, sharp professional soldier with a well developed sense of humour. I recall seeing him on patrol in the ‘Murph in the 70s when things were a little fraught – he was unflappable a ready grin of acknowledgement in the toughest of situations. Nothing seemed to phase him. He was an extremely popular man – with all ranks – regarded as a ‘go to’ person by his officers and NCOs and one looked up to by his contemporaries. Excellent in the field smart on parade a wee bit wild off duty – like us all! He was a staunch supporter of the Regimental Association attending the annual Minden Day parade and celebrations at Berwick each year – I read he attended this year’s too despite suffering the ravages of cancer. He bore his suffering with fortitude and dignity never losing his sense of humour and inquisitive mindset – a Harley rider too! It was a privilege and an honour to have served with so fine a man.
