Registering With the IBB & IJLB Association:

Q. Do I need to register with the association to use the web site?

A. No, we recognise that many people who are not eligible to register with the association may have a legitimate reason to view the website and should be encouraged to do so.

Q. Who is eligible to register?

A. You are eligible to register if you enlisted with the Infantry Boys Battalion or the Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion or were a member of the Permanent Staff which trained them.

The Unit started in Tuxford in 1952 and 1 Company was detached to Harrogate because of the lack of space. It then moved to Plymouth and the detached Company was able to rejoin the main unit. The Battalion then moved to Oswestry were it stayed until 1975. After Oswestry closed down the Battalion moved to or re-established itself at Shorncliffe where it remained until it was finally disbanded in we believe, 1985.

Q. I was at Oswestry in the Junior Infantry Wing, am I elegable to register?

A. Sorry mate but although we shared the same location the units were clearly separate. The JIW started at Oswestry in 1971 and was the result of regiments being unable to cope with the increased number of young recruits wishing to join the infantry.
