The Long Walk
Friday, July 15th, 2011
As most of you will be aware from the forum , Hugh Norton intended to walk to entire length of Hadrian’s Wall in aid of Help for Heroes . Fuelled with the good wishes of all who attended the Reunion ( and copious amounts of port ) , he set off on 5 June on his long trek . We also held a raffle at the Dinner which raised £650 for Hugh . He finished in good style and his magnificent effort raised over £3,000 for an extremely worthwhile charity . Well done Hugh !!
Here’s what Hugh had to say :
Just to let you know that I arrived back home last Monday having Walked the Wall and earned 3000 pounds for Help for Heroes in the process! It was a fantastic week and I met some great people along the way all of whom helped to give me the encouragement I needed to get through it.
The old feet gave me unexpected problems but thanks to my nephew, who joined us for a couple of days and provided good treatment as well as replacement boots, we got by and finished in good order and on time.
We were met at Wallsend by a detachment from the Coldstream Guards who provided a suitably military touch to the proceedings as well as creating a good photo opportunity!
Cheques were forthcoming from two local Branches of the CG Assn. as well as a totally unexpected donation of 800 quid from the members of the Marlborough Club.
I have attached a couple of photographs to give you a feel of the occasion!
So, for those of you who’ve been waiting to have a chuckle about my blisters before making a donation now’s the time!
My webpage will be open for a while yet so please feel free to visit it and help out.
On behalf of all those who will benefit from your generosity, thank you.
